In case anyone would like to know what I am up to. I'm making last-minute preparations for Bronycon, tomorrow and Sunday. This will be the largest gathering of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fans in the world--4000 strong! And I don't mean Tara Strong, the voice of Twilight Sparkle, although she will be there, along with lots of other voices, one writer, the shows creator, Lauren Faust, and John de Lancie, who played Q in Star Trek! I have a cold, so, if I get to meed John de Lancie, I'm going to have to tell him that I'm giving him the Q Virus back (seee the bottom paragraph here; http://blogcritics.org/video/article/trekkies/)

Writer's Block: A rose by any other name

Do you like your birth name? If you had the opportunity to change it, would you? What new name would you choose?

Yes. In fact I'm in the process of changing my name. The name I have is nice, but it's the name of a boy. My parents named me after my sex and it turned out that my gender does not match my sex, so now I'm changing my name to Jessica, to match my gender. Simple as that, from the point of view of a non-operation transexual, anyways. What makes someone a transgender of any kind, or what it's like to be transgender, that would take much, much longer to explain!

My Take on Love
Furry
vulpine_jessica
Love is keeping a special place in your heart for someone else. Is that fair enough for a basic definition? In most cases what we are looking for is shared love. Unless we are trying to be like Jesus, Ghandi or someone like that and we want to show love for our enemies, it's a loss of energy to hold a torch for someone who'll never love one back. Platonic love (non-romantic love) should not be overlooked. On should share unconditional love with a circle of friends and family; even if they have to turn to a surrogate family. When one doesn't have a mate, they still have the pack. With the "pack" one should find support in foul weather as well as fair.

I find that platonic love is the key to romantic love. I always advise others against actively hunting for a mate. On should instead, seek to make friends. If there is a spark of romantic love between two friends, it will happen more naturally. I wasn't looking for a relationship when I met and started seeing my Stacy, but she'll be my mate for seven years this March (2009).

You and your mate should respect what the other values. There's no way that any two creatures can share all the same interests, but one should never have the other give up something or someone that they like (Also, one should only be encouraged to change for their own benefit, not for the benefit of another). Naturally one is allowed to spend more time with their mate than with anyone else, but if your mate ever wants you to stop seeing any of your fiends, then RUN! DON'T WALK! RUN FAST AND DO NOT LOOK BACK (This usually takes place because the other wants to take control of you) I've seen it happen too many times when someone finds a mate and abandons their friends and the two that I can recall at this late hour both ended in disaster. A good sign of true love is when you notice that the positive energy that you get from being with someone is still there when you are away from them.

One of the things I recommend for preserving a relationship is total honesty. I feel more comfortable around, and closer to Stacy because we feel open to share everything. I warn anyone who wants to keep a secret with me that I can't hide it from Stacy (unless it were a surprise party or something like that. ^.^). She of course, will not share it with a soul, but me.

Breakups and partings happen. What's there to save you? You're friends are there. Once again, it's platonic love to the rescue. Aren't you glad that you didn't give up your friends just to have a mate? Whenever dealing with anything tragic, the best thing one can do is drink plenty of water; not coffee, not soda, not tea, not hot chocolate, not even fruit juice, just water (feel free to indulge in any beverage once you know you are well-hydrated). Being well hydrated promotes good physical health. Good physical health promotes good mental health. Good mental health helps one get though adversity. Having a good pack to run with also helps one get through adversity.

There's what I have to say about love, be it scat or shineola. ^.^

Ever since the _____ ship sought asylum, on Stardate YYMMDD, all computerized systems have been giving glitches. Up until recently the glitches have ranged from barely noticeable to minor nuisances. It was thought that these problems would go away after both computer cores were brought back to full capacity, but, in fact, things are starting to get worse.
The worst hit have been the hollo emitters and the replicators. Fortunately, so far, systems have been effected only when they are inactive. Medical Holograms have been taking on the personalities and even the appearances of historical figures and fictional characters. Despite the fact that these moments have been brief and have not caused any harm, there is a fear that Medical Holograms may fail to perform their duties at critical moments or even do harm. Many medical officers have avoided working with them in situations when they normally would do so. Use of the holodeck has been restricted to times when holodeck activity can be closely monitored. Replicators have been substituting standard orders for food and items with what could be described as costumes and props.

*Intelligence:
- Investigate the occurrence in case this is an act of sabotage.
Marine:
Protect all parties using the holodeck. Your post will be within the holodeck itself and you will stay in contact with Operations. You will be issued a suit that will keep you cloaked (Just like in the movie: Insurrection) and you will be armed. It doesn’t seem likely that anything will happen, but we must be on the cautious side.

On Stardates 081214 what could only be described as a ghost ship suddenly appeared in empty space. A runabout was sent out to investigate. It was found “materializing” and has been brought back (with difficulty) to Tranquility Station for further study. Only now has it materialized enough for her to dock with the station, so that she can be boarded.

The configuration of this derelict ship seems to be familiar, but no one has been able to determine who might have constructed it. The ship doesn’t appear to be carrying any weapons. There is a mixture of Federation; Klingon; Vulcan and Romulan; Bajoran and Cardassian persons within the vessel. They seem to have killed each other in violent hand-to-hand combat. The ship’s logs seem to have been erased; whether it it was due to the anomaly that brought the ship here or if the records have been erased on purpose, is unknown

A guide to my Star Trek role play characters
Furry
vulpine_jessica
Since I've been involved in quite a number of Star Trek roleplays, I've decided to create a sot-of guide to all of them.  I plan on posting the more interesting stuff about each of them, soon.

Second Life:

United Federation Starfleet:
Vulpina Howley: my Second Life persona and officer for United Federation Starfleet ( an SL group). Untied Federation Starfleet takes place within the Delta Quadrant. It's the creation of what amounts to a second Strarfleet founded by the Federation; in order for them to have a foothold in the new territory charted by the U.S.S Voyager. During my academy days, I was assigned to write five role-play story lines for a space station. I shall post each of those five as their own blog. If I come up with more story lines or whole stories, they will also be posted.

Star Trek Furry Union:
Lt. Sasha Gatalc: Assistant Chief Engineer of the U.S.S Deliverance, an Excelsior class vessel brought back into service after the Dominion War, due to the deficit in ships.

Captain Jessica Campbell: Commanding Officer of the U.S.S Vigilant, a Constitution Class vessel. At the time that I am writing this, we have yet to have our first Vigilant roleplay. The Vigilant role-plays will be set in Captain Kirk's time. The group chose the writer of the best-sounding backstory to play the Captain. That was me! Yay!

Furcadia:

Lt. Commander Jessica Vulpina: Cheif Engineer of the Starship Zenith. This was my very first Trek character. I became friends with the creator of the group and later decided to join. I was already an experienced roleplalyer and role-playing onboard a starship became like a dream come true. I met one of my now closest friends on the Zenith. Shi is a chakat from New Zealand who is living with hir family and going to school in East Australia. She always plays medical officers.

Lt. Commander Jessica Byakko: Chief Engineer of the U.S.S. Camelot and later the XSS Xian( space station). The owner of the Starship Zenith would have to log off promptly at midnight GMT (he lives in England); which would be 7:00PM my time. With all role-plays coming to an end by 7:00PM, I found myself with nothing to do, till I came across, and joined, the Camelot. I'd be on the Zenith before 7:00PM and on the Camelot after.. It was on the Camelot that I met my chakat friend's now mate. I believe it's also where they met each other. He's a feline from California. He tends to play the combatant (he was the Chief Hazard Officer on the Camelot) or fighter squadron characters (his RL dream is to fly). He also spent some time on the Zenith, but he felt the owner didn't roleplay with enough of a sense of realism (The owner would brought the shields to 150% and went to high warp. I was too passive to say, "She can naw take it, Captain!"). Finally, he's the owner fo the XSS Xian group; where the Camelot crew continued their adventures after that group disappeared. Both of my friends are why I joined United Federation Starfleet, after we spent some time together in Second LIfe. Of all the Trek characters I've rolplayed as in Furcadia, Byakko is the one I most miss playing.

(The original) Jessica Campbell: Acting Chief Engineer of the Starship Dublin and later engineering officer onboard the Starship Avalon (when the Starship Dublin got Destroyed and was waiting for an updated version). I joined the Dublin when all three homes of the Star Trek roleplays were no longer appearing.

That's all of the Star Trek characters I have played, so far. For the backgrounds of these characters and their adventures, please see their individual blog entries.

My First Time at Arisia
Furry
vulpine_jessica
Arisia is New England’s largest science fiction and fantasy convention.  It runs Friday though Monday of Martin Luther King weekend.  I went there dresses as my own character, The Kitsune Cavalier (I’ll see about including a photo, in the future).

I showed up and registered for $20 then I spoke with one of the hatcheck volunteers and followed him to the gaming area as I organized my stuff.

The Theme was "The fabric of Science Fiction so I spent my first half hour organizing my stuff, socializing, and wrapping a rainbow of colored hair ties around blue leopard-spotted scarf, in order to come up with the closest approximation to the fourth Dr. Who's scarf, I could create (in answer to the theme, of course).

I then sat through two half hour retro TV shows.   One was Rocky Jones, space ranger.  I recognized Dr Newton as the guy who created artificial Kryptonite for gangster Happy King in the original Superman TV show.

Then I went to see the vendors but I only saw 25% of them, because I kept stopping to socialize.   At 7:00 went back to the gaming room to check out a furry RPG that never took place, so I went to a seminar on storytelling instead, which was followed by one on making money from your art.  My problem is I somehow fancy myself a good writer.

The Cosplay Prom was already well underway when I got down there and had my prom photo taken.  I then went in, and danced.  There were glow sticks, Pocky's, and punch.  I didn't win any prizes.  After gathering my things, but before going home, I took a seminar for writers called "Do what you like." Then I went home.
